Lead Abatement Class
You will learn different types of asbestos (chrysotile, amosite, crocidolite, etc.)
Safe work practices, PPE, containment, cleaning, environmental testing, job specs.
Format: Lectures, hands-on training, and a final written exam.
Graduates are prepared to conduct lead-based paint inspections, perform risk assessments, and safely remove or contain lead-based materials in compliance with federal regulations.
Upon successful completion, you will:
- Receive a certificate of completion
- Earn industry-recognized certifications
Common Job Duties Across Roles:
- Setting up barriers (plastic sheeting) to isolate work areas from the rest of the building to prevent dust spread.
- Cleaning surfaces, removing fixtures, and covering unaffected areas.
- Hazard Removal / Stabilization: Physically removing lead paint, encapsulating it (sealing it with a coating), or repairing / replacing components.
- Cleaning & Decontamination: Thoroughly cleaning work areas, tools, and themselves to remove lead dust.
- Waste Management: Properly bagging, labeling, and disposing of lead-contaminated materials.
- Safety Compliance: Adhering to all federal (EPA) and state lead safety rules, wearing PPE (respirators, suits).
- Record Keeping: Documenting activities, samples, and safety checks.
